X community adds a context note to user's post: An X account known as The Debt Collective posted "This is a red alert. Congress wants to make student debt cancelation ilegal [sic]. Specifically @SenSchumer @RepJeffries @SenatorCantwell @SenDuckworth & @RepRickLarsen 45 million student debtors need to see this & get VERY VERY loud." The post included a screenshot of the proposed legislation that clearly read "(4) Prohibition on mass cancellation of eligible undergraduate flight education and training program loans. - The Secretary, the Secretary of the Treasury, or the Attorney General may not take any action to cancel or forgive the outstanding balances, or portion of balances, on any Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, or otherwise modify the terms or conditions of a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, made to an eligible student, except as authorized by an Act of Congress." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Congress's action is limited to taking out student loans for flight school training, not all student debt as the post implies. congress.gov/bill/118th-con… " The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
