Etsy banned Quillette managing editor Colin Wright for content that 'glorifies hatred or violence toward protected groups': Etsy banned Colin Wright, an evolutionary biologist and managing editor for Quillette, according to screenshots Wright tweeted. The screenshot shows an email allegedly sent to Wright by Etsy's Content moderation team. "This notice is to inform you that Etsy has elected to revoke your account privileges permanently," the notice read. "[A] comprehensive review of your account has brought us to the conclusion that our business relationship must now come to a close." The platform cited its content policy which prohibits "content that promotes, supports, or glorifies hatred or violence toward protected groups." The policy includes "items or listings that are demeaning or disparaging toward people based upon: race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, disability or sexual orientation." Wright appealed and the platform doubled down that he had violated the policy claiming it was "unable to reconsider the decision." It is unclear exactly what prompted the ban but his cover photo and profile picture include the words "reality's last stand" along with the symbols for male and female. Users who attempt to access his store are met with a notice that says "swipewright is currently not selling on Etsy."
