X community adds a context note to Chris Christie post:  Former New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie's official X account posted, “There is a big difference between free speech and hate speech. There is a difference between free speech and violence. There is a difference between incitement and free speech. And we must call out that difference. What is happening on our college campuses today is not free speech. It is hate speech. It is inciting violence and fear.” The post included a video clip from Christie's speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition's Annual Leadership Summit. X added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read, "The Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed that there is no First Amendment exception for 'hate speech.' Further, incitement is free speech until it is inciting imminent lawless action where such action is likely, an extremely narrow standard. firstamendment.mtsu.edu/article/hate-s…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized.
