Facebook censors Austin Petersen for a Jeffery Dahmer joke meme: Prominent Libertarian radio host and former political candidate Austin Petersen posted a joke meme on his Facebook account just before Thanksgiving 2020, and Facebook punished him for it three months later. With many governors and mayors across the country telling their constituents that they must limit their Thanksgiving gatherings because of the threat of COVID-19, there was some pushback. Petersen posted a meme about these regulations. It featured a photo of infamous serial killer and cannibal Jeffery Dahmer, with text that read: "No one's going to tell me how many people I can have for Thanksgiving dinner." Late in February 2021, Peterson was informed by Facebook that this meme violated its community standards "on dangerous individuals and organizations." Facebook removed the post from his timeline, and told him that he cannot "go live or advertise for 90 days" because of it. Petersen explained on Twitter that it seemed "a bit harsh for what is obviously a joke."
