Facebook censors campaign announcement for Michigan state Senate Republican candidate Aric Nesbitt. Michigan state Senate candidate Aric Nesbitt (R) attempted to create a campaign announcement for Facebook to distrubute through a paid promotion but Facebook censored the ad almost immediately, according to the Daily Caller. “Your ad wasn’t approved because it doesn’t follow our Advertising Policies,” read the Facebook removal notice, according to screenshots. “We don’t allow ads that contain shocking, disrespectful or sensational content, including ads that depict violence or threats of violence,” according to a message from the company. It’s unclear what could have been shocking, disrespectful or sensational about the ad as it merely summed up what Nesbitt stood for. Nesbitt captioned his post with the statement:
I’m proud to announce my candidacy for State Senate. Lansing needs conservative, West Michigan values, and as our next State Senator, I will work to strengthen our economy, limit government, lower our auto insurance rates, balance the budget, stop sanctuary cities, pay down government debt and be a Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment leader for the people. A Facebook spokesperson later claimed the incident was an error and the platform restored the post. “We’re very sorry about this mistake,” Facebook told the Daily Caller. “This ad was incorrectly disapproved by our automated systems. We approved it as soon as this error was brought to our attention and have turned off the automation that caused the error in the first place.”
