When a new report exposed that the federal government had wasted over $1 billion politicizing American education and indoctrinating children, NBC, CBS and ABC completely failed to mention it in their evening programming.
On Wednesday, Parents Defending Education issued a damning report revealing that the Department of Education spent a least $1 billion on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), including for hiring, recruiting, programming, training and other activities such as activism. This scandal drew the attention of Fox Business host Stuart Varney, as well as the named leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and X owner Elon Musk. This was not, however, reported on the Dec. 12 editions of NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, or ABC World News Tonight.
According to Parents Defending Education, the Department of Education earmarked at least $489,883,797.81 for DEI hiring. The federal agency plowed through at least $343,337,286 for DEI programming and at least $169,301,221 for “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Based Mental health/Social Emotional Learning.” Parents Defending Education has documented the myriad ways so-called Social Emotional Learning is a Trojan horse for radical leftist concepts, from critical race theory to gender theory.
Notably, some of the funding went to programs that explicitly discriminate based on race, such as a four million dollar grant to a project that “prioritizes the selection of ‘student identities underrepresented in the computing field’ which include ‘Black, Latine, Native, low-income, girls, non-binary.’” The Department of Education gave millions more to spend on teaching kids about leftist propaganda terms like “intersectionality” and “white privilege,” alongside concepts like “Trauma-informed, Antiracist Social-Emotional Learning.”
Instead of covering the news, CBS Evening News covered something called “Holiday Shipping,” breaking down the different final dates to send a package by FedEx Ground Economy, USPS Ground First Class and FedEx Overnight and ensure that it arrived on time for something occurring on Dec. 25.
Meanwhile, ABC World News Tonight brought the important news that animals at a zoo became sick, while NBC Nightly News found time for sports and an actor but not this important story of waste and radicalism.
After the report was published, Ramaswamy ripped the spending as “worse than just wasteful,” while Musk called the use of taxpayer dollars to embed DEI in education “insane.”
The Biden-Harris administration’s ideological abuse of taxpayer funds was panned across X, as well as on Fox News, Newsmax and Fox Business. Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo called out Secretary Miguel Cardona’s Department of Education for spending money pushing radical concepts instead of educating students in normal subjects.
Her guest, National Review staff writer Caroline Downey, called the spending “a gross misappropriation of resources,” made all the more appalling since it occurred after many students were left behind by remote learning during COVID-19.
Downey added, “This also exposes how much of a racket DEI really is because DEI only survives frankly if it enters contracts with the government, whether that’s school districts locally or the Department of Education. It's predicated on inventing racism in society and then prescribing this consultancy or this training to solve it.”
