The taxpayer-funded leftists at National Public Radio flung proverbial sewage at critics who dared raise Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s financial ties to billionaire George Soros.
NPR’s Apr. 6 edition of All Things Considered decried “conservative politicians” who made Soros a “bogeyman” in Bragg’s highly politicized prosecution of former President Donald Trump. The outlet railed at critics like Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
NPR host Mary Louise Kelly brought on guest and liberal Soros biographer Emily Tamkin, who downplayed the fact that Soros gave $1 million to the anti-police Color of Change PAC just a few days after the group initially pledged $1 million to support Bragg’s 2021 election campaign. She also teed up Tamkin to direct wild accusations of anti-Semitism at “conservative politicians” who criticize Soros.
But here was the fun fact that Kelly conceded that undermined the entire argument: “I want to open by noting that NPR has in the past accepted money from Soros' foundation to finance independent reporting on state governments.” Perfect, so no conflict of interest there, right NPR?
MRC Business released an extensive, investigative report on Soros’ enormous global media empire. The series included a profile that dissected how Soros’ direct funding of NPR gave him influence with NPR’s entire legion of at least 1,800 journalists and 400 reporters and editors in over 200 member stations across the country. It makes sense then why the outlet would venture so far to protect its leftist financier from his detractors.
MRC Business Vice President Dan Schneider, who is Jewish, slammed NPR for its asinine propaganda in a statement: “NPR is doing what weak people typically do: they call their opponents nasty names instead of addressing the actual issue.” He continued: “[S]imply because the largest donor to Democrats and left-wing causes happens to be Jewish should not make it impossible to point out that Soros is a funder of the most radical, left-wing causes.”
Kelly questioned Tamkin if “there [was] any evidence that Soros got something for this money in the case of Alvin Bragg, that his money bought influence in some way?” Tamkin gave a resounding “No, there's no evidence of that.” She continued: “[T]his is over-assigning the influence of Soros over Bragg and also dramatically overstating the agency that Soros has over this case.”
Bongino Report Content Manager Matt Palumbo pointed out the absurdity of this kind of gaslighting during the April 5 edition of Fox Business’ Varney & Company. He ripped liberal media critics for hinging their entire “denial” of the Soros connection to Bragg on the assumption that it was just “one gigantic coincidence,” that Soros happened to finance the exact amount Color of Change PAC initially pledged to support Bragg just days after the PAC’s announcement.
But for NPR, denying the Soros-Bragg connection wouldn’t be complete without smearing Soros’ critics as racists.
Kelly speculated about the “implication” of “conservative politicians” calling someone “Soros-affiliated.” Tamkin had one ridiculous explanation: “He’s Jewish, which brings with it all sorts of connotations if one wants to play on anti-Semitism,” she said.
Kelly primed Tamkin to continue beating the anti-Semitism drum. Tamkin whipped out the race card to make it seem as if “conservative(s)” pointing out Soros’ ties to Bragg were in actuality just taking veiled swipes at Soros’ race:
KELLY: You mentioned George Soros is Jewish, which is prompting questions as to whether the attacks on him are anti-Semitic. How do you understand this?
TAMKIN: The idea of a Jewish person being all-controlling and all-powerful and using that control and power to denigrate and degrade and corrupt society is a very, very old one. It does not matter if the word Jewish was not actually said. This is trying to use anti-Semitism and anti-Semitic tropes in order to stir something up within the hearts and minds of those hearing it.
