Legal expert Jonathan Turley warned Americans against Europe’s “New World Order” in a way some may not have guessed.

In a March 22 column about the World Forum conference, Turley called attention to the motto for the event: “A New World Order With European Values.” This “ominous” sounding goal is most particularly a threat to free speech, Turley declared, emphasizing the current European politicians’ obsession with censorship. “Even putting aside the implications of the New World Order, the idea of building a world on today’s European values is chilling for free speech,” he wrote.

The World Forum meeting in Berlin occurred last week amidst an ongoing struggle between the pro-free speech Trump administration and anti-free speech European Union officials. Adding fuel to the fire, Turley slammed the EU and U.K.’s speech policies. “Free speech is in a free fall in Europe, with ever-expanding speech regulations and criminal prosecutions — including for having ‘toxic ideologies,’” he wrote.

The World Forum, Turley explained, shares “a powerful sense of fraternity, even an intimacy among leaders who see each other as a global elite — a cadre of enlightened minds protecting citizens from their own poor choices and habits.” And with the election of President Donald Trump in America, Turley posited that the European leaders — though not ordinary EU citizens — are working to shift the balance of global power from America to Europe.

The forum even featured two infamous American globalists to prop up the theme: former President Bill and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both lifelong Democrats.

The proposed shift of power from America to Europe, according to Turley, would be a disaster for free speech. “The discussions focused on blunting the rise of far-right parties and stemming the flow of ‘disinformation’ that fosters such dissent,” Turley explained.

Disinformation is often a phrase used by Big Tech companies and the left to refer to free speech which they disagree with and propose to suppress. Turley made a point to highlight the forum’s use of similar euphemisms and “coded language.”

He mocked: “Outside of this rarefied environment, the Orwellian language would border on the humorous: protecting democracy from itself and limiting free speech to foster free speech.” He later added, “They never say the word ‘censorship.’ They prefer ‘content moderation.’ They do not call for limiting speech. Instead, they call for limiting ‘false,’ ‘hateful’ or ‘inciteful’ speech.”

Part of the reason the European leaders are so desperate to control speech online, however, Turley wrote, is that their voters are increasingly looking for political alternatives to the anti-free speech oligarchies like what exist across the continent now. And as even social media companies like Meta and X attempt to defy the censorship demands, the forum attendees’ authoritarian hopes are likely to be dashed.
