Politico appears to believe that the mountains of cash that taxpayers dish out to the federal government belong to President Joe Biden’s own “wallet.”

The liberal outlet tried to go after Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis for being a persistent Biden critic, and ended up making itself look totally stupid in the process.

Politico harrumphed: “Gov. Ron DeSantis has been a persistent critic of President Joe Biden on nearly every policy front as he moves toward a likely potential 2024 presidential bid. But the Florida Republican likes one thing about the president: his wallet.” Yikes.

Politico used the “wallet” talking point to rail at DeSantis for “billions of dollars in emergency federal aid during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, money that the governor used to fund his top priorities and pet projects” over “the past two years.” A

pparently, according to Politico's tweet of its story, “federal relief” is just charity from the "president’s wallet.” Twitter heavily ratioed the post, with over 5,500 comments and only over 1,000 likes so far.

The characterization is even worse in light of Biden’s addiction to madly bleed through taxpayer dollars. Following Biden’s inflationary “$4.8 trillion” in new spending and the Federal Reserve’s disastrous money printing policies, The Heritage Foundation now estimates that “the average American has lost the equivalent of $4,200 in annual income under the Biden administration because of inflation and higher interest rates.”

In addition, The Committee for a Responsible Budget estimated on Sept. 13, 2022, that Biden’s excessive government borrowing ($4.8 trillion so far) will “lead to continued inflationary pressures, drive the national debt to a new record as soon as 2030, and triple federal interest payments over the next decade – or even sooner if interest rates go up faster or by more than expected.”

If anything, Biden is treating the American people’s “wallet” like his own personal plaything to use and abuse at will, but readers wouldn’t know it from Politico’s disastrous faux pas.

Talk about a major faceplant. But Politico dug its proverbial grave deeper by pivoting off the “wallet” angle to harangue DeSantis for being set to receive aid to assist with the deadly damage inflicted by Hurricane Ian:

Florida is now poised to benefit from billions of dollars in additional federal assistance to grapple with the devastating damage left by Hurricane Ian, which could bring a staggering $40 billion of insured losses.

The rest of the article was like watching a train wreck happen in real time. “[F]or DeSantis, the eagerness to accept the money comes against the backdrop of not only being one of Biden’s biggest critics, but also his past record rejecting federal disaster relief for New York and New Jersey in the aftermath of 2012’s Hurricane Sandy.”

Make it stop.
