A recently-launched artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot is designed to help women abort their unborn babies.
AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bard have already been exposed for responding to users with a programmed leftist bias while suppressing competing views.
But a group of leftists has put AI to an even more sinister use, with a chatbot advertised to help women in every state obtain abortions. The chatbot also criticizes state laws restricting abortion and the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs that overturned Roe v. Wade.
“Charley, The Abortion Chatbot” is “managed” by partners of the National Women’s Health Network (NWHN), which on its website encouraged women to “Chat with Charley to get abortion options in every zip code.” The group continued the pitch for its baby killing bot by attempting to boost the chatbot’s credibility. “Everything Charley shares has been vetted by experienced public health professionals and reproductive health advocates, including medical and legal experts.”
“Disturbing — and dehumanizing,” said MRC Free Speech America & MRC Business Director Michael Morris. “That’s the least that can be said about the creation of an AI chatbot meant to help facilitate ending the lives of the most vulnerable among us — unborn children. It is just like the left to literally remove the living, human element in such an important life or death situation.”
Abortion pills are legally restricted in more than a dozen states, according to USA Facts, and abortion is banned in at least 14 states, according to the United Nations.
An MRC Free Speech America researcher tested Charley and found that the AI offered different options based on zip code and user age. It offered advice on obtaining either abortion procedures or abortion pills.
The questions and answers in Charley are pre-programmed, however, meaning that users cannot ask their own questions as users do on other chatbots like ChatGPT.
During one search, Charley specifically critiqued state laws restricting abortion. “Abortion is medically safe no matter how far along someone is in their pregnancy,” Charley asserted, ignoring dozens of women’s deaths and a thousand or more hospitalizations from abortion procedures and abortion pills. “However, many state governments have tried to limit abortion access for decades, and some of them passed laws that ban abortion care at various gestational ages. Many of those laws are now being enforced since the Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to abortion in 2022,” Charley continued. The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson simply recognized that there is no right to abortion in the Constitution and sent the decision back to the states.
Charley’s creators include many former employees of radical abortion giant Planned Parenthood, including former President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards, the organization’s former Chief Technology Officer Frank Rosado and former Planned Parenthood employee and “passionate advocate for sex education” Nicole Cushman. Also listed are former President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of South, East, and North Florida and current Latinx Outreach Lead Lillian Tamayo, former Director of Innovation at Planned Parenthood Kaori Sueyoshi, and former Planned Parenthood digital department head Tom Subak.
Charley The Abortion Chatbot highlights the dangers of AI—it has already moved beyond programmed political bias to the matter of life or death for the country’s most vulnerable.
