Women's Voices

Twitter 'accidentally' locks Women's Voices' account: Twitter locked Women's Voices' account, according to a purported screenshot. The account tweeted, "'Female is real, and it's sex. Femininity is unreal, and it's gender. And for that to become the given identity of women is a profoundly disabling notion.' -- Germaine Greer #NoThankYou #SexNotGender #Feminism." Twitter claimed the tweet violated its rules against hateful conduct. "You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease," according to the notice. Women's Voices appealed Twitter's decision and the platform approved the appeal. In a tweet about the incident, Twitter head of Trust & Safety Ella Irwin said, "I realize there's a perception that this tweet was restricted due to mass reporting or employees with a hidden agenda but actually it was just one complaint and a brand new agent that made a mistake when reviewing the complaint. They will be going through more training."
