The White House

Twitter community adds a context note to White House tweet:  The official Twitter account for the White House tweeted, “When President Biden took office, over 18 million Americans were receiving unemployment benefits. Today, that number is down by more than 90%." Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "Per DOL’s All Programs Claims (oui.doleta.gov/unemploy/DataD…): 1/21: 18.8M 11/22: 1.4M (a 93% drop) Context: COVID rapidly drove significantly higher than normal claims beginning in 3/20, peaking at 33M in 7/20, and then gradually declining to today. For reference, the average from 2017-2019 was 1.8M." The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
