Twitter community adds a context note to White House tweet: The official Twitter account for the White House tweeted, “President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act finally gave Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices and requires rebates to Medicare if prices rise too fast. This doesn’t just put money back in seniors’ pockets – it’ll also cut the deficit by $159 billion." Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the prescription drug provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act will cut the budget deficit by $129 billion - not $159 billion - between 2022 and 2031. Nearly half of that reduction ($58 billion) is estimated to happen in 2031." The context note also included a link to an article to support the note. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
