Twitter locks a user’s account: A user tweeted a screenshot of their account, which shows a previous tweet and Twitter’s warning message. The prior tweet read, “Quit using children to validate your mental illness – let children be children.” Twitter locked the user’s account. Per the screenshot, the reason was, “violating our rules against hateful conduct.” Twitter stipulates, “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.” Twitter did not specify what specific content in the user’s tweet qualified as such prohibited conduct. The user also tweeted that he or she later posted the same content again to twitter, with no negative consequence.
