UnWokable

Twitter censors UnWokable: According to a tweet from James Lindsay, Twitter locked the account of journalist and commentator @UnWokablePod. Lindsay posted purported screenshots of UnWokable’s account and the responses Twitter sent to UnWokable. Per the screenshots, UnWokable had tweeted “‘Stop Trans Genocide’ = ‘Keep it legal to mutilate children,’” and Twitter locked the account. The message from Twitter said, “We have determined that this account violated the Twitter Rules. Specifically for: 1. Violating one of our Rules.” Twitter gave UnWokable the option to delete the tweet in order to get restored account access. Twitter Rules are meant to prevent a range of inappropriate content from “violent speech,” “gory,” or “adult content,” and “non-consensual nudity” to “platform manipulation and spam.” However, Twitter did not explain what particular content in UnWokable’s tweet violated its policies. At the time of writing, UnWokable appeared to be unlocked, and the disputed tweet is replaced with the message, “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.” It is unclear whether UnWokable deleted the tweet or whether Twitter removed it. According to Twitter’s enforcement policy, “In the interim period between when Twitter takes enforcement action and the person removes the Tweet, we hide that Tweet from public view and will replace the original content with a notice stating that the Tweet is no longer available because it violated our Rules.” Typically the user would need to delete the tweet in order to have their account unlocked.
