X community adds a context note to user's post: An X (formerly Twitter) user posted a response to a President Joe Biden post. Biden was responding to a post from Sesame Street's Elmo account, which had sent out a post asking how everyone is doing and received a lot of responses indicating negative feelings. The Elmo account then posted "Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing." Biden's response to this post read "I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days. Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it. Even though it's hard, you're never alone." A user responded to Biden, saying "PASS A LAW! FUND SOMETHING! FORGIVE A DEBT!! ANYTHING!!!!!" The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The President alone does not have the power to pass laws, only to sign or veto laws sent to them by Congress. Furthermore, as of January 31st, 2024, the Biden administration has canceled nearly $132 billion in student debt. Sources: trumanlibrary.gov/education/thre… ed.gov/news/press-rel…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
