Twitter suspends transgender individual for being 'transphobic': Twitter suspended someone who identifies as a "trans" person over a tweet that was considered hateful towards transgender people. The violating tweet read as follows: "Another Friday morning, another entitled 'transwoman' claiming to be more feminist than actual women. Rebecca, mate, you can continue to perform femininity until the day you pop your clogs but you'll never, ever, know what it's like to 'be' a woman." In a notice alerting the user to their suspension Twitter indicated the tweet was a violation of the platform's hateful conduct rules. Under Twitter's hateful conduct policy sexual orientation, gender and gender identity are considered "protected categories" which cannot be the basis for any type of targeted harassment, threats or violence. Essentially, any posts critical of someone's sexual orientation, gender or gender identity are not allowed — even when the criticism comes from a person that belongs to one of those "protected categories." In a separate tweet someone remarked that the suspended user "can't stand that trans people are being treated as equals and being validated as normal." The suspended user responded: "Mate! It might have escaped your notice but I actually am a 'trans' person and have been for 30 long years. So please, don't tell your grandma how to suck eggs."
