Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene

Twitter placed a warning label and sharing restriction on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet critical of transgender public health official: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) tweeted a picture of Rachel Levine, Assistant Health Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), when Levine was sworn in as a four star admiral. Some reports, like that of HHS, have called Levine "the first female four-star admiral of the [U.S. Public Health Service] Commissioned Corps." Greene tweeted in opposition: "A dude who lived the first 50 years of his life as a man isn’t the first female anything. China is laughing at us." Many Twitter users reported the tweet, but Twitter decided not to remove it. Instead the platform placed a warning label interstitial over the tweet that read: "This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about hateful conduct. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible." Users must click on the warning in order to view the tweet, which is also then presented with the same warning in a prominent location above the tweet. Twitter also placed a sharing restriction on the tweet preventing users from commenting on, liking, retweeting, or sharing the tweet on other sites. Users can only quote tweet Greene's tweet.
