X Suspends News Outlet for Report on Migrant Crime: X suspended the account of news outlet The Publica after the outlet posted a story covering the atrocious rape of a 13 year old girl by two Afghan migrants in Malmo, Sweden. "Two Afghan migrants have been SPARED PRISON after being convicted of gang raping a 13 year old girl in Malmo, Sweden," posted The Publica. "The court sentenced one of the rapists to 10 months in youth residential care, and the other to 1 year of community supervision." The post also included a link to the original story, which purportedly contained an image that X deemed "child sexual exploitation," resulting in the suspension of the account. Sydney Watson, an online influencer and one of the founders of The Publica, challenged X's characterization of the image, arguing her outlet took the necessary safety precautions to make sure the image was not explicit. “We weren’t certain what was going on in the image,” said Watson. “So just to be extremely cautious and to not break any guidelines, we blurred the living crap out of it.” The suspension garnered a public backlash, which prompted Elon Musk to personally get involved. Shortly thereafter, The Publica's account was restored.
