President Joe Biden

Twitter community adds a context note to Joe Biden tweet:  The official Twitter account for the president tweeted, “Nearly 25% of the entire national debt – that took 200 years to accumulate – was added by the last Administration. Meanwhile, we cut the deficit by over $1.7 trillion in two years. I'm not going to sit and be lectured by MAGA Republicans in Congress about fiscal responsibility.” Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "While superficially accurate, this is missing important context. 1) Bipartisan COVID funding tripled the deficit in 2020, making up much of the debt attributed to Trump. 2) Its planned expiration caused the 2022 deficit reduction. (Biden actions have increased it.)" The context note also included several links that supported the note. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system.
