President Joe Biden

Twitter community adds a context note to Joe Biden tweet:  The official Twitter account for the president tweeted, “Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, folks who purchase electric vehicles can receive a tax credit of up to $7,500 per vehicle, allowing millions of consumers to ditch the pump and easily switch to an EV. Take a look:” The tweet included a link to an IRS article discussing this credit. Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "The $7,500 tax credit existed prior to the IRA. The IRA made several changes to the credit that will, for the most part, begin taking effect in 2023 and last until 2032. Among them are new manufacturing requirements, income thresholds and expanded car type eligibility. " The note also included a link to support the assertion. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
