Twitter temporarily locked the account of Lauren Witzke, the Republican party candidate in Delaware’s U.S. Senate race, over a tweet highlighting the impact of mass migration in Europe. “Let’s be clear, mass migration absolutely destroyed Europe. Italy, France, Sweden and Germany took in tons of migrants who never assimilated. Rapes, murders, and other heinous crimes abound. I will end ALL immigration into the US for ten years.” Witzke's tweet read. Twitter warned Witzke that she could not promote violence against, or threaten, people on the basis of the platform's protected categories. This includes race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease. The platform also warned Witzke that repeated violations of this rule would lead to a permanent suspension of her account.
