Twitter community adds a context note to Joe Biden tweet: President Joe Biden's official Twitter account tweeted, “I'm proud of the progress we have made. We reduced the deficit in our first two years by $1.7 trillion. That includes more revenue by asking the wealthy and large corporations to begin to pay their fair share and cutting subsidies to Big Oil and Big Pharma.” Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "The $1.7 trillion reduction was caused by previously planned expiration of COVID spending. Biden's actions raised, rather than lowered, the deficit. This misleading claim has been repeated (& debunked) so often the Washington Post gave it a Bottomless Pinocchio rating." The context note also included links to CNN and Washington Post articles to support the note. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
