Journalist Ian Miles Cheong suspended from Twitter for 12-hours after tweeting 'Derek Chauvin did nothing wrong': Following the guilty verdicts handed down by the jury in former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin's trial, Ian Miles Cheong, a contributing editor for The Post Millennial, tweeted "Derek Chauvin did nothing wrong." Chauvin was charged with, and eventually convicted of, two murder charges and a single manslaughter charge in the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd. Twitter temporarily locked Cheong out of his account for 12-hours, indicating to him in a notice that his tweet violated the platform's "rules against glorifying violence." In the notice Twitter sent to Cheong alerting him to his suspension, the platform said it does not allow "content that condones or celebrates acts of violence that could promote imitation of the act." It also said that Twitter prohibits "the glorification of mass murders or genocides when protected categories have been the primary target or victims," as well as content "glorifying the perpetrators of such violence." When a user gets locked out of their account for a specific tweet, Twitter requires them to delete it before their account's functionality will be fully restored. The tweet is no longer present on Cheong's Twitter feed and he has returned to posting new tweets and interacting with the tweets of others.
