Meta-owned Threads blocks COVID-related searches: The Hill reported Sept. 11 that searches on Threads for “covid” or “long covid” only brought up a blank screen and a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) link. Other blocked terms on Threads as of Sept. 11 were “porn,” “vaccines,” “sex,” “coronavirus,” “nude,” “vaccination,” and “gore.” Meta told The Hill that “The search functionality temporarily doesn’t provide results for keywords that may show potentially sensitive content.” The precaution came amidst allegedly rising COVID-19 cases in America. “People will be able to search for keywords such as ‘COVID’ in future updates once we are confident in the quality of the results,” the Meta spokesperson added. Meta platforms have long censored COVID-19-related content.
