Brookfield School Board

YouTube removes — then reinstates — yet another school board meeting for violating its policy on medical misinformation: Video footage of a Connecticut school district Board of Education meeting, during which mask wearing and social distancing policies for students were discussed, was removed by YouTube for supposedly violating the platform's policies around "medical misinformation." The video, uploaded via the Brookfield School District's YouTube channel, was reportedly reinstated following inquiries from local news source Hearst Connecticut Media. Following those inquiries, a YouTube spokesperson responded, indicating that "upon further review, we’re reinstating the Brookfield Public School meeting video. We have policies in place to allow content that might otherwise violate our policies as long as it includes educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic (EDSA) context," according to The News-Times. A disturbing trend of YouTube pulling down videos of public school board meetings has emerged, with similar videos from states in Illinois, Kansas, Washington, and North Carolina being flagged and taken down for purportedly violating YouTube's policy on medical misinformation about COVID-19.
