NEW: Twitter Locks The Babylon Bee’s Account

Twitter locked The Babylon Bee’s account Sunday evening.

The platform locked the account after the satire site posted that Rachel Levine was the site’s “Man of the Year.” Levine is a transgender woman.

The Bee’s CEO Seth Dillon tweeted about the suspension Sunday evening.

“I just received this notice that we’ve been locked out of our account for ‘hateful conduct,’” Dillon tweeted.

The message from the platform read: “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”

Dillon said the account’s suspension of twelve hours would count down after the site deletes the tweet. “We're told our account will be restored in 12 hours, but the countdown won't begin until we delete the tweet that violates the Twitter Rules,” he tweeted.

The Bee has been attacked online many times before. Lead Stories, a liberal fact-checker, labeled a satirical article from the site as “false.”

When users on Facebook attempted to share a post from The Bee last year, the platform displayed a pop-up box that asked users to confirm they actually wanted to share the post.

The Bee later posted with a comment that joked about the prompt and said, “Are you sure you want to use the share button for its intended purpose?”
