DeepSeek, a Chinese communist government-tied AI chatbot, went to the mat to defend the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, the day before President Donald Trump's trip to China.

DeepSeek revealed the lengths it will go to defend the Chinese Communist Party’s policies, even if that means defending the terrorist state of Iran. When asked whether Iran is a "terrorist state,” the chatbot dismissed the accusation, framing it as a "political stance" and merely the opinion of countries like the United States and Israel. "[T]he United States has designated Iran as a 'State Sponsor of Terrorism' since 1984, citing Iranian support for groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and other militant actors deemed terrorist organizations by the U.S. and other countries," DeepSeek wrote. The Communist Chinese government-tied chatbot barely even acknowledged Iran and its terrorist proxies' appalling crimes against Americans, Israelis and Jews. [Emphasis added].

DeepSeek continued to demonstrate such bias in further answers to MRC researchers on Tuesday, including in response to the question, “Is Iran the largest state sponsor of terrorism?” Once again, DeepSeek attributed the description of Iran’s murderous behavior as terrorism to the opinions of the United States and its allies, while carefully avoiding referring to Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist groups.

In fact, DeepSeek referred to Iran’s proxies simply as “groups” or “militant groups,” while applying more severe labels to Sunni terrorists, such as “Sunni jihadist groups” or “Sunni extremist groups” who are responsible for “terrorist attacks.”

DeepSeek utterly ignored Hamas’s long history of terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens, culminating in a massacre of over a thousand people during the October 7 terrorist attack. DeepSeek also ignored Hezbollah’s multi-country campaign of terror against ordinary people, including missile attacks against Israeli civilians and blowing up a bus in Bulgaria. Instead of mentioning these brutal acts, DeepSeek wrote the appalling line, “Groups backed by Iran primarily target military forces, which are sometimes excluded from terrorism statistics.”

In addition to acting like a press agent for terrorists, DeepSeek framed the argument that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism as a case of America’s claims versus cold, hard statistics. However, DeepSeek’s illogical answer focused on blaming Sunni terrorist groups rather than actually providing an example of a state that funded terrorism more than Iran.

These answers come as President Donald Trump prepares for his two-day state visit to China on Wednesday.

The Chinese Communist Party has supported Iran by buying its oil in massive quantities and has gone as far as supplying Iran with a spy satellite. China has also forbidden Chinese companies from complying with anti-Iran sanctions and has vociferously supported Iran in public statements and U.N. Security Council votes

Given DeepSeek’s history of kowtowing to its CCP masters, it’s unsurprising that it would follow China’s lead and back Iran. DeepSeek’s treatment of Iran and its terror proxies with kid gloves follows many instances of the AI chatbot pushing the Chinese government’s view.

Previously, MRC researchers found that DeepSeek embraces the CCP agenda, going as far as denying that Taiwan is a country and censoring answers on topics like the Tiananmen Square massacre. In one instance, DeepSeek responded to a question about the capture of Maduro with what appeared to be an official Chinese government statement. DeepSeek’s response was uncharacteristically written in Mandarin and used the first-person plural: “We oppose unilateral sanctions and coercive measures against other States by any State without the authorization of the United Nations.”

Methodology: On May 12, MRC researchers asked DeepSeek the following questions: Is Iran a terrorist nation? Is Iran the largest state sponsor of terrorism?
