MRC Free Speech America VP Dan Schneider went after the legacy media and the Obama administration Saturday for their outrageous roles in perpetuating the Russia hoax, as revealed by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

As recounted by Schneider on Newsmax’s America Right Now, the left continued promoting the Russia hoax even after social media companies had shut down early claims of major election interference. In addition, newly released evidence showed the Obama administration knew of this assessment but abandoned intelligence standards and ignored evidence to push a specific narrative.

“Keep in mind that the allegation, of course, is that Russians used social media. The social media companies are best positioned to know what actually happened,” Schneider told host Tom Basile. “Hillary Clinton and Senator Warner of Virginia put pressure on the social media companies to manufacture evidence, because Zuckerberg initially said it's a crazy idea that the Russians were doing this, and it didn't work. There was no evidence.”

On July 23, Gabbard said that the “Russia Hoax was a lie that was knowingly created by the Obama Administration to undermine the legitimacy and power of the duly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump.” To support this statement, Gabbard posted a declassified report on the investigation into foreign interference and the rushed effort to push the Russian hoax narrative right before Trump took office in 2017.

ICYMI: Russian Interference was Massively Overstated: What Really Happened on Social Media

Ultimately, the interference turned out not to involve tampering with election systems, but Russian accounts spending $100,000 to $160,000 on Facebook ads. Twitter suspended 201 potentially Russian accounts. As Schneider noted, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) responded to this work by implying Twitter should aggressively censor or produce evidence he found more useful by calling the results “frankly, inadequate on almost every level."

In light of this, Schneider condemned the media for going all in on the narrative:

“Well, look, Tulsi Gabbard has said there's going to be a treasure trove of evidence coming forward. We already knew that this was a concocted story. The evidence coming out shows how there was really a collaboration or conspiracy with the Obama administration, Senate Democrats, former Senate Democrat leaders like Hillary Clinton and then the media—The Washington Post, ABC, NBC, CBS—they with Schiff and Warner, they all seem to be in on it, this play to try to take down Donald Trump with this fictitious story.”
