Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) issued a sharp rebuke to former President Joe Biden and his Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for an outrageous decision that benefited Biden’s billionaire donor, George Soros.

During a speech on the Senate floor on Tuesday, Kennedy cited the Media Research Center to break down how the Biden-led FCC improperly fast-tracked Soros’s foreign-backed takeover of hundreds of radio stations. The MRC had repeatedly urged the FCC to properly vet the purchase rather than offering Soros an unprecedented favor by waiving the required review.

“One of the groups that petitioned the FCC was a group called [the] Media Research Center. The FCC—three democrats, two republicans—dismissed them,” Kennedy recalled, before reading from a petition by MRC Founder and President Brent Bozell.

Quoting Bozell, Kennedy added, “‘There is no question that George Soros and his affiliated businesses are looking to control these radio stations to advance their particular brand of activism.’ And the MRC urged the FCC not to create ‘a special Soros shortcut’ that would circumvent their rules and allow the deal to move forward.”

“They did it anyway!” the Louisiana senator exclaimed.

In 2024, Soros Fund Management purchased $400 million of radio giant Audacy’s debt—granting Soros a 40 percent stake in the company. Audacy’s programs span 46 markets with approximately 225 radio stations, 16 of which have a massive 50,000-watt broadcasting range. After Soros’s purchase, Bozell cautioned the FCC, which has jurisdiction over broadcast licenses, on two separate occasions not to bend the rules to help Soros spread propaganda nationwide.

In the same petition Kennedy quoted, Bozell told the FCC: “The Communications Act does not contain a special Soros shortcut. And the FCC should not countenance this request for one.”

Bozell further pointed out that the Soros group purchasing the radio giant has admitted that foreign ownership of Audacy will exceed the legal limit of 25 percent following the sale. This obligates the FCC to review the purchase properly.

However, Kennedy warned the Senate this was not what happened. “The approval for Mr. Soros went through the FCC like green grass through a goose. And it was a party-line vote,” he said earlier in his remarks. Democrats “just got together and rammed it through.”

After reading several quotes exposing the work of the then-FCC majority, Kennedy cried out, “Pass me the sick bucket!”

Kennedy noted that there is a “new sheriff in town” as President Donald Trump has been sworn in and change has arrived at the FCC. Following the election, new FCC Chair Brendan Carr, who fiercely opposed the Audacy fast-tracking as a commissioner, indicated that the Biden FCC may not have the last word on Soros’s purchase.
