Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) shockingly admitted government influence on social media has an “undeniable” impact on elections during the Saturday episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
After Rogan asked him about his thoughts on the topic, Fetterman acknowledged the government’s overreach and censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story during the election four years ago. “It did probably have a significant impact on the 2020 election,” he told host Joe Rogan, referring to censorship. “It’s undeniable it can have an impact on that.”
Fetterman’s comments followed Rogan’s rebuke of the federal government’s role in influencing social media companies to censor Americans in 2020 and 2021. Rogan asserted, “This was a significant interference in the First Amendment… These corporations that were running these social media companies were being directly influenced by the federal government. They were using this power to silence people from speaking out against certain things.”
Rogan continued, “This is very concerning to a lot of people, this idea that the government would infringe on our ability to be whistleblowers, to expose issues that had been hidden from the American people because of greed and money and politics.”
Rogan referred to the Twitter Files to call out the FBI for contacting Twitter to warn them of an imminent bombshell story that may be tied to Russian disinformation. Weeks later, Twitter would ban the New York Post after the newspaper released its exposé into the Biden family.
Rogan also scolded the former intelligence agents, who in a now-debunked letter, claimed the Hunter Biden laptop appeared to be part of a Russian disinformation campaign. “When you had 51 former intelligence agents that were testifying that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation when it seems pretty clear that they knew it not to be true,” he continued.
An MRC survey from 2020 found that 45.1 percent of Americans who voted for Biden in 2020 were unaware of the Hunter laptop story. Roughly 9.4 percent of respondents said they would have voted differently if they had known.
In response to Rogan’s comments, Fetterman affirmed, “I'm a free-speech kind of person. … I’m always going to try to air on the side of free speech,” taking what appeared to be a stance against his party's pro-censorship approach to content on social media.
