The Big Four News Apps almost never linked to one of the nation’s most popular right-leaning outlets in their top 20 articles over 100 days, with two of the news apps blocking the outlet altogether.
While Pew Research Center found in 2025 that almost one in five U.S. politically-affiliated adults regularly reads news from the New York Post, Media Research Center researchers found that Apple News, Google News, MSN and Yahoo News barely acknowledged the outlet’s existence between Nov. 1, 2025, and Feb. 8, 2026.
As uncovered by MRC:
- MSN and Apple News did not link to a single New York Post article in their daily top 20, not even once during those 100 days.
- Yahoo News linked to the Post just once out of 2,000 articles over that same period.
- Google News promoted the Post just three times.
Significantly, of the three Post articles in Google News’s top 20 between Nov. 1 and Feb. 8, every single article was about dissatisfied sports figures. Not a single one was about political issues, which the digital gatekeeper reserved largely for left-leaning sources.
For instance, on Dec. 15, Google News listed the following Post headline about a Vanderbilt quarterback in seventeenth place in its top 20: “Diego Pavia fires off flagrant message to Heisman Trophy voters after Fernando Mendoza’s win.”
Similarly, the New York Post article in fifteenth place on Jan. 29 was, “Football Hall of Fame threatens to remove voters who violated bylaws one day after Bill Belichick snub.” Finally, on Feb. 1, Google News promoted this Post headline in seventeenth place for the top 20: “Australian Open women’s final rocked by ‘very uncomfortable’ Elena Rybakina coach photo.”
Meanwhile, as MRC just revealed in a separate study, Yahoo News featured right-leaning outlets in its top 10 articles on just two days over the entire month, once from Fox News and once from the Post. Notably, the Post entry was a Jan. 14 story headlined, “Public speaking expert reveals 2 FBI interrogation tactics to stop anyone from interrupting you” which Yahoo specifically elevated instead of coverage addressing breaking news or major political issues.
As noted above, Apple News and MSN had a complete blackout on Post articles starting on Nov. 1, jointly sharing 4,000 articles without a single link to the popular right-leaning outlet.
Methodology: During the time period Nov. 1, 2025 - Feb. 8, 2026, MRC researchers examined the top 20 AllSides-rated news stories featured on Apple News, Google News, MSN and Yahoo News each day at approximately 10:00 AM ET and the top 20 AllSides-rated news stories between Jan. 12 - Feb. 8, 2026 at approximately 8:30 AM ET. MRC researchers used the AllSides media bias ratings, which categorize an outlet as “left,” “lean left,” “center,” “lean right” or “right” to determine the overall bias presented by the apps and analyzed the results.
