DOGE employees working under X owner Elon Musk are now reportedly listed as staff at a federal agency infamous for its censorship efforts.
Two technologists for the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were reassigned as employees at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where they will continue to cut bloated spending and anti-freedom programs, WIRED reported and POLITICO corroborated on Wednesday. This follows the suspension of multiple CISA employees accused of coordinating online censorship.
Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old engineer jokingly known on social media as “Big Balls,” and 38-year-old software engineer Kyle Schutt are now considered CISA staff as they continue DOGE’s work of exposing government corruption. CISA did not provide an official statement to WIRED but referred the outlet to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under which it operates.
Coristine, according to WIRED, has already worked with DOGE to investigate multiple government agencies, including the State Department, which was also accused of coordinating censorship with social media companies in the Murthy v. Missouri lawsuit. DHS has not yet confirmed in response to a request for comment what Coristine and Schutt are doing at CISA, but in light of the Trump administration suspending officials from the anti-free speech CISA Election Security and Resilience division, the work could be free speech related.
CISA has a long history of promoting censorship, as described in a House Judiciary report titled, “THE WEAPONIZATION OF CISA.” Meanwhile, the Twitter Files and the landmark Murthy v. Missouri lawsuit exposed CISA as pressuring Big Tech companies to silence free speech. It appears that will all change under the Trump administration and DOGE, despite two Democrat lawmakers’ demands for continued CISA censorship.
