Two Democrat congressmen appear to be in panic mode after a federal agency infamous for pressuring social media began placing censorship employees on leave.

President Donald Trump reportedly put on leave several officials from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), who stand accused of coordinating online censorship with Big Tech. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Rep. Joseph D. Morelle (D-NY) promptly wrote to CISA to get answers on the pro-free speech changes and insist that censorship efforts continue, particularly for elections.

The lawmakers started their letter by expressing “grave concern” that members of CISA’s so-called Election Security and Resilience division, “including individuals who previously worked on addressing the risks posed by election mis- and disinformation, as well as foreign influence operations,” have been put on administrative leave by the Trump administration.

Padilla and Morelle mourned the move as allegedly harming CISA’s ability to coordinate with states to protect elections. In contrast to their claims, former CISA Director Jen Easterly admitted in November that the 2024 election did not experience major disruptions, but still argued that her agency and social media needed to suppress “disinformation.”

Using common leftist catchphrases to justify censorship, Padilla and Morelle asserted, “Election-related mis- and disinformation from domestic and foreign actors continues to threaten the strength and integrity of our democracy by weakening trust in our elections and promoting falsehoods about election officials that have resulted in threats against them and their families.”

The Democrat lawmakers claimed vaguely that U.S. elections are now “more vulnerable” to foreign threats. “The removal of these employees raises significant questions as to CISA’s continued commitment to election-related work,” they whined.

They ended their letter with a series of questions about the employees placed on leave and whether or not CISA continues to coordinate censorship of supposed disinformation.

CISA has, in fact, long been involved in anti-free speech activities, as described in a damning House Judiciary report titled, “THE WEAPONIZATION OF CISA.” Furthermore, the Twitter Files and the landmark Murthy v. Missouri lawsuit exposed CISA as pressuring social media companies to silence free speech. It appears that will all change under the Trump administration.
