Twitter banned the term “groomer” last week, seemingly believing that the term is an anti-LGBT slur.
Reclaim The Net reported Saturday on the ban:
“Following pressure from journalists, Twitter has followed Reddit and has started censoring the word “groomer,” suggesting that it is an anti-LGBT slur.
Cultural and political commentator James Lindsay was locked out of Twitter after calling Ari Drennen, who works at left-wing pressure group Media Matters, a groomer.”
Twitter is not the first social media platform to ban the term.
NewsBusters reported last week that leftists cheered on a Reddit crusade to ban the term. Pro-LGBTQ activist Alejandra Caraballo’s tweeted that Reddit banned “groomer” adding the comment, “Reddit is now more proactive than Twitter. Your move@TwitterSafety.”
