UPDATE: USA Today's Standards & Recruitment Editor Brent Jones responded to a request by MRC Business VP Dan Gainor regarding the offensive tweets. Here is Jones' response:

Dan,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Bill Mann is a well-known humor writer, but he’s not a columnist for USA TODAY.  As you noted, he’s written a few freelance pieces for us, but not for at least a year. His opinions are his own.

Best regards,

Brent

Bill Mann, freelance "humor" writer, who has been published by USA Today and the Huffington Post, got nasty with multiple Republican candidates for president during the Oct. 28, CNBC debate. Mann also describes himself as a media critic, but during the debate it wasn’t the media he was slamming, it was the candidates.

At 9:15 p.m. Mann (@Newsmann on twitter) tweeted:

One minute later, Mann went after Fiorina again:

Immediately after that he retweeted the official account of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Several candidates drew applause when they criticized the liberal media during the debate. With people like Mann in the media, their complaints are to be expected.
