In a bout of mind boggling hypocrisy, Hollywood multi-millionaires have banded together to oppose the wealth gap and make Wall Street multi-millionaires out to be corrupt fraudsters.
Money Monster, which combines the acting and producing efforts of Jodie Foster, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, will attack the Wall Street system it claims is “rigged for the elite” and is “stealing everything” from average Americans.
The film also “promises to make reference to the ever-widening wealth gap in the US,” The Guardian (UK) reported on Jan. 13.
The film’s stars — Foster, Clooney and Roberts -- must be oblivious to their own riches: a combined net worth of $520 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Clooney plays Lee Gates, a television host of the Money Monster investment show on the fictional network: FNN. Yahoo! Movies drew a comparison of the character to CNBC’s Jim Cramer.

In the film, Gates is held hostage at gunpoint on live television by a man who lost his money after following some of Gates’s investment advice.
Gates and his show producer (Roberts) spend the film dealing with not only the attacker and his bomb threat, but also “Wall Street’s lies,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be released on May 13.
In a Jan. 12, interview with Yahoo! Movies, Foster sympathized with the fictional attacker she brings to life onscreen by accusing the real Wall Street of rigging the investment system so only the elite could understand it.
“It’s specifically intended that the casual stockholder does not have the benefit of the best choices,” Foster told Yahoo! Movies.
In the trailer, Gates’ attacker tells the camera, “I might be the one with a gun here, but I’m not the criminal. It’s people like these guys!”
“This poor guy Kyle put the only amount of money he has in one stock and loses everything in nine minutes,” Foster said, rationalizing his behavior.
