Twitter permanently suspended a user's account and for claiming that gender dysphoria is a mental illness: A user tweeted in response to other users "Gender dysphoria is a mental illness, not a physical one," according to purported screenshots tweeted by an alleged friend of the user. The purported screenshots show that Twitter permanently suspended the user for "violating[Twitter's] rules against hateful conduct." The platform explained that users "may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease." [Emphasis added]. A permanent suspension leaves the account in "read only" mode which prevents a user from tweeting, retweeting, liking other user's posts, and creating a new account. According to the user's friend the user had had no previous suspensions, account locks, or restrictions prior to the incident. The account has not yet been restored at the time of pubication.
