Sarah Phillimore

British free speech activist indefinitely suspended from Twitter for deadnaming (mis-gendering) account by the name of 'frank': Sarah Phillimore is the co-founder of Fair Cop, a group of British nationals who all have "shared concerns about police attempts to criminalize" the expression of "opinions that don’t contravene any laws." Phillimore was indefinitely suspended from Twitter after she referred to an account by the name of "frank" using a male pronoun. Doing so violates Twitter's rules against hateful conduct, which say you may not promote violence, harass or threaten people on the basis of several protected categories, including gender and gender identity. Reports on Twitter indicate Phillimore was unaware the account did not actually belong to a male, and other users noticed "frank" only had a single follower which lends to the idea that the account was likely set up specifically to kick Phillimore off of the platform – not an uncommon tactic. "Sarah Phillimore - a barrister who fights for freedom of speech & women's rights," an anonymous user tweeted, "has been permanently suspended from Twitter for commenting on (unpunished) abuse that she was receiving, because she referred to the account, which goes by the name of 'frank', using a male pronoun."
