Australian celebrity chef who plans to run for federal office was banned from Instagram weeks after getting banned from Facebook: Pete Evans is a celebrity chef in Australia who was kicked off of Facebook-owned Instagram just weeks after getting kicked off of Facebook as well. "We removed Pete Evans' account for repeatedly sharing debunked claims about the coronavirus or vaccines," a Facebook spokesperson said, according to Yahoo News. "We don't allow anyone to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm or about COVID-19 vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts." Ahead of Evans' ban on Instagram several of the chef's posts on the picture-sharing platform were deleted for violating policies around misinformation. Vowing to crack down on COVID-19 misinformation Facebook/Instagram expanded its list of false claims about the coronavirus and vaccines not allowed to be posted by users only a few days before Evans' Instagram ban, according to Yahoo. Evans was kicked from Facebook back in December 2020 for the same reason he was removed from Instagram — for casting doubt on World Health Organization information about COVID-19 and the treatment mechanisms used to recover from it. He plans on running for federal parliament in Australia in the near future.
