Parler

Free Speech focused Twitter-alternative Parler removed from Google Play Store following chaos on Capitol Hill: Free Speech focused Parler was created to be an alternative to platform's like Twitter and Facebook, which have increasingly placed constraints on the content allowed to be discussed and posted by users. Without any prior warning, or notice, Google immediately removed Parler from its store where users go to download the app. "In order to protect user safety on Google Play, our longstanding policies require that apps displaying user-generated content have moderation policies and enforcement that removes egregious content like posts that incite violence," a Google spokesperson said. The app has taken a major hit from Big Tech companies that are blaming the app for contributing to the events at the Capitol in D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021. CEO John Matze said in an interview on Fox News Channel that Big Tech's targeting of Parler threatens to potentially put the new platform out of business.
