Pamela Geller

Facebook suspends Pamela Geller: Pamela Geller, the founder and editor-in-chief of The Geller Report, tweeted, “Without notice or explanation @facebook has permanently suspended me. Like all totalitarian regimes that came before, freedom of speech, individual rights, equality for all before the law are banned. Defenders of these human ideals are persecuted, marginalized & eventually eliminated.” Geller also included a purported screenshot of Facebook’s message. Facebook said, “We suspended your account. 180 days left to disagree or we’ll permanently disable your account.” The reason Facebook cited was “Your account, or activity on it, doesn’t follow our Community Standards.” Facebook’s Community Standards are meant to “create a place for expression and give people a voice,” while also keeping the platform “a safe place.” Examples of prohibited material are “violent and graphic content,” “spam,” “adult nudity,” and “fraud.” Facebook did not specify what content or activity on Geller’s account violated its policies, so it remains unclear why Geller was censored. At the time of publishing, Geller’s account appears to have been restored.
