NOVA Campaigns
Case #
5887

X censors user's account, claiming "sensitive content": An X (formerly Twitter) account that goes by NoVA Campaigns has been flagged by the platform. When visiting the account, users are met with a message claiming "Caution: This profile may include potentially sensitive content. You’re seeing this warning because they Tweet potentially sensitive images or language. Do you still want to view it?" Users may then click through to view the profile. However, most of the user's posts containing any form of media are also covered with a sensitive content filter. For example, the user posted "Did you see the new @libertysafeinc advertisement?" and included a video a Liberty Safe explosion test alongside the statement from the company confirming that it had provided a backdoor combination to a customer's safe to the FBI. However, X placed a sensitive content filter over the attached video and images. Such filters do not allow users on the mobile app who have the sensitive filter enabled on their profile, the default setting, to view the filtered content at all. On the web version of Twitter, the users must click through the sensitive content interstitial in order to view the filtered content. It is unclear what led to an account-level sensitive content filter being applied to this user's account.
