Twitter locks a user’s account: According to screenshots in a tweet, a Twitter user had posted, “no problem with gays. it’s not my thing at all, and kinda gross me out, but that’s the nature of preferences. Everything after LGB is weird, disturbing, mental illness.” Twitter locked the account until the user deleted the tweet. Twitter also restricted the user’s account. The user could still “browse Twitter” but could only send Direct Messages to followers. The user lost access to all other account functions, such as Tweeting, Retweeting, or following new accounts, for a period of twelve hours. Per the screenshots, Twitter claimed the user was “violating our rules against abusive behavior.” Twitter forbids its users to “share abusive content, harass someone, or encourage other people to do so,” but the user’s tweet contained no such content. At the time of publishing, the user’s account appears to be restored.
