British technologist Ivan Pope temporarily suspended from Facebook after placing picture of cheese as his Facebook avatar: Ivan Pope, who coined the term "cybercafe" in the 1990s, was "locked out of his [Facebook] account for two weeks" after he uploaded a picture of a slice of cheese as his Facebook avatar, according to the UK's The Sun. "One of the reasons they can throw you off is for pretending to be someone else," Pope told The Sun. “I probably put the cheese avatar up a day before. It was just a slice of Emmental. It looked like a face — a bit like a polar bear. It was just a silly thing.” Pope mentioned that Facebook requested he confirm his identity with them by entering a code and sending a picture of his photo ID, according to The Sun. "I feel helpless. There’s nothing I can do. I understand Facebook need to police their site because some people do bad things," Pope continued. "But I’ve been on it for years. There were no arguments.” Facebook reportedly claimed later that Pope's suspension was an "error" and his account had been restored. "We understand if Ivan is cheesed off by our mistake," a Facebook spokesperson said according to The Sun, "we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
