Gummi Bear

Twitter censors popular account for citing CDC data: A popular conservative Twitter account that goes by Gummi Bear was censored over a tweet about COVID in children. The tweet that was found to violate Twitter's policy against "spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19," according to the censorship notice, read: "Let's look at how many children under 18 have died of Covid-19 (CDC data) They are 127 times more likely to die from something not named Covid-19 So Parents 'You've got 128 Problems, but the Rona is just one' Shame on the 'health experts' out there scaring people." The tweet was referencing CDC data as of September 15, 2021, listed as "Deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), pneumonia, and influenza reported to NCHS by time-period, jurisdiction of occurrence, sex and age-group. This data indicated that for all children ages 0-17 years old, 439 had "deaths involving COVID-19," while 56,092 had died from "all causes" in 2020 and 2021. This reflects a 127 times greater chance of dying from all causes than a "death involving COVID-19," as the Twitter user accurately noted. Despite this, Twitter forced the user to delete the tweet if they wanted to regain access to their account, then serve a one-week read-only account restriction as punishment. The user has appealed the decision instead of deleting the tweet, and is waiting for Twitter to review it.
