YouTube allegedly charged Grabien with using "someone else's content without making changes that add significant value." But Elliot contested this claim on Twitter, arguing that Grabien only posts "original montages and news clips pulled from public domain news sources. If it were true, surely they would’ve flagged specific clips." Demonetization has been one of YouTube's most impactful tools harming independent creators. "By promoting videos that meet certain criteria, YouTube tips the scales in favor of organizations or creators — big ones, mostly — that can meet those standards," wrote liberal tech outlet The Verge.
