X community adds a context note to an Elon Musk post: X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk posted "Just bought a new PC laptop and it won’t let me use it unless I create a Microsoft account, which also means giving their AI access to my computer! This is messed up. There used to be an option to skip signing into or creating a Microsoft account. Are you seeing this too?" The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. It is still possible to set-up the latest version of Windows without a Microsoft account." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. The label was later removed from the post.
