Twitter shadow bans scientist over tweets about COVID-19: Dr. Lidiya Angelova, who says she holds a PHD in microbiology and has been a scientist for more than 15 years, posted screenshots on Twitter from the website shadowban.eu that suggest Twitter is "shadowbanning" her. "Shadowbanning" is the act of blocking a user's content on social media while keeping the user unaware that their content is being affected. The screenshots posted by Angelova suggest Twitter has banned her content from appearing in the search results of users not strongly tied to her, also known as a "search suggestion ban." The image also suggests Twitter is placing an interstitial over Angelova's comments for accounts that don't follow her, something known as "reply deboosting." In both instances the user's content is being suppressed without their knowledge. "Twitter trying hard to stop me spread real news about #COVID19," said Angelova in the tweet that included the screenshots from shadowban.eu, as well as a call for her audience to follow her on alternative platforms.
