The Center Square

Twitter blocks 'dozens of stories' from news site that features reporting on state and local government: For 10 days links to stories from The Center Square, a news website that reports on state and local government with a focus on economics, were "blocked" by Twitter. This all began with the blocking of a link to a story about a bribery scandal involving energy producer ComEd who pled guilty to corruption charges. The story was covering newly furnished documents from the Illinois state-sanctioned committee looking into the case, which were pertinent to the investigation. "Within moments after the story was posted at TheCenterSquare.com, our team shared the story on Twitter. A moment later, the link was blocked by Twitter," wrote The Center Square journalist Chris Krug in an Op-Ed for the Daily-Journal. "In the 10 days that followed," Krug continued, "Twitter blocked dozens of stories from The Center Square." Some days, Twitter "blocked everything," according to Krug, while other days the platform "selectively blocked" The Center Square's reporting from all over the country. The Center Square distributes its stories through three main channels: a newswire service to legacy publishers and broadcasters, TheCenterSquare.com, and social media.
